Recruitment & Training

Every Child Deserves One Caring Adult

“There is no greater gift you can give a child than the feeling of being safe, seen, and supported.”

Right now, across Missouri, there are many children who are waiting – not just for a home –
but for hope.

They are waiting for someone to:

Believe in them
Show them patience
Help them heal
Remind them they matter

Who Are These
Children?

Children in foster care come from all walks of life, but they often share one thing in common: They have experienced trauma, loss, or instability.

They are:

  • Infants needing gentle care

  • School-aged children needing structure and encouragement

  • Teens who need guidance, patience, and someone who won’t give up on them

Some are placed with siblings.

Some have never had consistency.

All of them deserve a chance.

What Does It Mean to Foster?

Fostering is not about being perfect. It’s about being present.

It means:

  • Opening your home – and your heart

  • Providing stability during uncertain times

  • Celebrating small wins that become big milestones

  • Helping a child feel safe enough to just be a kid

Some placements are short-term. Some last longer. All leave a lasting impact – on the child and on you.

Training is a critical step toward becoming a foster parent in Missouri. It allows individuals to ask questions, determine if foster parenting is the right choice and to build relationships with other parents and agency staff. Here are the resources to get you started:

Pre-service training is a prerequisite to become a licensed resource home. Resource parents must successfully complete classroom training as well as an extensive assessment interwoven with the training.
